Sometimes a radio interview can go wacky ... especially in the world of Rocket Science

Gloom clouds seem to be dissipating, mostly by me not giving a crab's ass about FB and its unprofessional untrustworthy lame excuse for "social communication" (Next Big Thing, now please). Back in the world of It Really is Rocket Science, Musicians do radio interviews, pod cast interviews, magical ether interviews. Exposure to new ears and thanking the existing fans is important. Sometimes, though, things get out of hand.

Disk Jockey: "So what does the Rocket Science band like best about their chosen instruments? Kpau?"

Kpau: "Drumming burns energy almost as good as sex! I like sex! When you get right down to it, there's no point to anything. But sometimes you get to eat candy and have sex -- so that makes it all good! What was the question again?"

Sashiko: "F***in' Texas Moo! He's askin' about music! Ah dinnae ken how yer brain gets from point A ta point B without sex! I don't talk 'bout sex, ask another question. Wait ..."

Glycerin: "Is this m-m-mike on? ... ... ... bloody ... is he ask-asking us ab-about s-s-s-sex, love? ... We has to go the 'loo! Now!"

Blar: "I like drums and now I have to go retrieve our lead guitarist. Be right back."

Tsika: "Am surrounded by circus clowns! Idiots! Bass guitar is my beloved instrument! Love the f***ing feel of the sound vibrating my bones! Is nice public way of feeling like being f***ed! What the f***! Is engineer f***ing bleeping me? G** D*** f***ing H***. You are **** *****. How dare you F***ing censor straight talk! Is ****ing **** *** ***!! **** YOU!!!! Interview is OVER!"

Disk Jockey: "Anddddddd we'll go to commercial break now."

Prose to Drawings to Cartoon to Reality

It's kind of cool seeing a character I've described in a story I've written spiral into drawings, to cartoons, then to real breathing jawdropping life. I put together a couple of montages trying to convey that to use in banners and such. The one I did for Glycerin (Elisanth) worked out well. I don't really have enough pictures for Tsika (as modeled by Mamiko) to do that one properly. But she and I are going to fix that over the next few months. I know now what it costs to do it right. I'm okay with the cost. The results will last for years.

Cartoon music videos

When I was writing the story about my rock musicians, it occurred to me it would be fun to implement them in RockBand 3. I've implemented the characters in other games (these characters have been floating around in various incarnations since tabletop D&D days of the '80s).

It was not only fun but kind of amazing to see the characters animated. I also figured out how to "game" the output to improve the result.

This is a video as the band might appear in the upcoming volume 4 of the series.

Video drawing for book giveaway contest winner.

This is my first swing at a video to reach fans. My own self-assessment is I need to sit up straight, silence some verbal static and eliminate odd pauses. Whatever, winner is announced. What I find interesting is that about 99% of my Texas twang is gone (left Texas in '92). There some drag in my "R"s.

Book series giveaway on Facebook, enter before 4 Aug 2014

It’s simple. Or one would THINK it was simple. Go to the post about the contest on Facebook.
1) click LIKE.
2) click SHARE and share it on your personal or public page.
That’s it. Yet only about 20% of the people who do step 1 manage to do step 2. The models I know say that’s typical and makes them crazy. The underlying point of such contests is to increase shares and therefore exposure of the artist, and hopefully more work and sales. But the 80/20 rule of humanity seems to apply here as well – even for free bananas.
Anyway, the first 3 novels of the dark comedy series “It Really IS Rocket Science” – for free, signed and shipped, for free. Even if you don’t read you can admire the gorgeous women on the cover. ;)

Volume 3 from the IRIRS series now available at Amazon

I can officially say the third volume of the It Really is Rocket Science series can be ordered in paperback at Amazon now.
============

The ROCKET SCIENCE band is jetting their way to Japan for a month long tour in the land of the Rising Sun, finishing off with a bang at the big summer rock festival. But will they make it there in one piece? The enigmatic traumatized Glycerin is suffering from clinical suicidal depression, Hank and Sashiko are circling like honey badgers flipping between snarls and cuddles. Tsika is trying to balance Blar, Glycerin, her desire for fame, and her dreams of family without going criminally insane herself. Aina just wants everyone to stay alive, happy, and making money. Comedy, crisis, and twisted romance continue as the band rumbles through the land of geisha, anime, sushi, and Yakuza. Alien food, ancient temples, and the challenge of finding a public bath that allows tattoos await as the musical misfits battle their own monsters rather than the most iconic Japanese monster of all. The third volume of the Rocket Science saga.

Deep in the throes of Volume 3 final revisions for the book series "It Really IS Rocket Science".

After a fairly complex photo shoot and post-processing project with Elisanth and Zatsepin Alex, we now have 3 new book covers for the existing two books and the upcoming third book of the series.
Original photography for volume 2 courtesy of Mamiko from the original cover. I plan a new cover shoot for Mamiko in a month or two for Volume 4 (and a reshoot of volume 2).
The new editions are now available at Amazon and B&N in paperback.Volume 3 is due out by the end of July 2014. Visit my author blog for regular updates. The obligatory and annoying FB pages -

Preparing for the summer Book Festival, Revising Volume 3

Just finished a photo shoot using the talented services of Elisanth and Zatsepin Alex for illustrations and book covers. I now have a perfect custom Glycerin who reflects her appearance and looks in my saga of a rock band. Glycerin as she appears early in her career.

And Glycerin as she appears later on (not a final cover for volume 3).

While all that is going on, revising and extending the third volume until it tells the story I want to tell.
Lots of coffee and/or adult beverages involved.

Facebook is "faking it" while looting musicians, models, authors, etc

Facebook has dropped a bomb on small business, sole proprietors, non-profits by essentially choking delivery of posts from pages to their fans to below 1%.

Most of us don't mind paying something to assure post delivery to people who have asked for them by liking a page. Problem is Facebook has a deranged toxic idea of what is affordable. The fees would bankrupt even moderately successful music bands, popular models, successful authors. It's idiotic. So many of the content creators on Facebook are either leaving FB or letting their pages wither as they move to other platforms where posts are reliably delivered to fans.

This is rather tragic as there was value to FB - but without reliable post delivery, there is no sense to giving them any money at all.

Anyway, I've been spending time helping any of my circle who needs technical assistance with new platforms, connecting them, etc.

This little video I made of my book characters covering a tune by Seether kind of expresses everyone's attitude toward Facebook quite nicely ;)

Mamiko: Green eyed Mamiko, lenses from Uniqso

My buddy and book cover model Mamiko got her some nifty contact lenses a while back. They were cute but I missed seeing the last photo with one green and one blue eye. Very strikingly cute.

Mamiko: Green eyed Mamiko, lenses from Uniqso: As I wrote earlier, I wanna show you my new green lenses from Uniqso. If you are following my fanpage you already saw first picture...

Volume Two "Surfing With The Alien" (It Really IS Rocket Science) available in paperback at Amazon

The second book of the series It Really IS Rocket Science is available at both my webstore and at Amazon.
The struggling rock band “The Lost Girls” and a rocker-in-exile join forces to form a new band called “It Really IS Rocket Science”. Join Blar, Tsika, Glycerin, Kpau, and a gang of other misfits as they strive to make it to the top and figure each other out along the way. Adventure, comedy, drama, romance – kind of the way life really happens. Portland, Oregon may be home but the life of a band is on the road as they rumble across the Pacific Northwest and maybe the world.

In this second volume of the series, the Rocket Science people go on retreat to write original music for the band. Do they know enough about each other to be isolated in California's Big Sur for a month? Blar is smitten with Tsika but the dynamics of their relationship with that of Glycerin and Kpau are complicated. What IS going on with Glycerin, the enigmatic shy guitarist? Are there creative ways to get by in life for misfits who care about each other? Follow the band as they work the gigs, the festivals, head to the ski slopes, and get lost in rural twilight zones. It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll.
